Mountain Travelers
Why did you come to the mountains? People
have been traveling to these peaks for millennia.
Ancestors of local tribes hunted elk and deer
and collected plants for food, fiber and medicine
across these ridges. Tribal elders tell of using the
mountains as travel routes, and for spiritual and
social pursuits.
People have come to these slopes for centuries for
the same reasons that visitors journey to Hurricane
Ridge today. Wilderness that provided survival
necessities like food and tools also nourished the
soul. The mountains continue to offer solitude
and renewal to anyone who travels here.
